9/11 anniversary memorial unveiling planned in Surprise

Surprise, AZ (August 25, 2011)  The Surprise Fire and Police Departments will pay special tribute to all public safety officials who perished in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in a special ceremony on the 10th Anniversary of that infamous day.

When: Sunday, September 11, 2011, 8:30 a.m.
Where: Circular Drive, on the east end of Surprise City Hall, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza

An unveiling of a new memorial comprised of actual steel from the World Trade Center is planned, as well as a procession from the Fire and Police Honor Guard.  The striking of bells will mark the east-coast times that the each of the towers were struck, 8:46 a.m. and 9:06 a.m.

*The public is asked to park in the City Hall parking garage and arrive at least 15 minutes before the event begins as not to disrupt the ceremony’s hard start time.
